Boston's 2007-2008 Season Comes To A Close Leaving Fans Hungry For 2008-2009.

Well another season comes to a close for the Boston Bruins as they fell 5 - 0 to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 of Round One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Despite the first round elimination however, this team has a lot to be proud of! When the 2007-2008 season began sports analysts never gave this team a fighting chance. They were not expected to play well let alone make it to the playoffs. After taking hits such as losing their star scorer, the team rallied together and posted wins. Enough wins to take them to the playoffs where...

Three down, 13 to go.

Boston bounced back from a deficit to tie the series with Montreal at 3-3. Game 7 is tomorrow night in Montreal. I am not sure I will be able to watch through both eyes at once. Someone once said to me -- when circumstances were eerily similar to this in 2004 -- that rookie goaltenders don't win playoff series. Whether it was a haunting prophecy then or it was just a comment designed to push my buttons because I made it a point to root against the Red Sox that year at every chance I was given (I'm going with...

Boston Bruins 18th Annual Charity Wives' Carnival 2008

The Boston Bruins 18th Annual Charity Wives' Carnival took place at the T.D. Banknorth Garden on January 6, 2008. The funds raised were donated to Cradles to Crayons, a local charity based out of Quincy, MA. Cheri and I had the pleasure of working with members of Cradles to Crayons for the two games prior to the carnival. They were absolutely wonderful people and it was very refreshing to see people so dedicated to helping the less fortunate children all over the state of Massachusetts. The members of Cradles to Crayons work specifically to provide school supplies, winter coats and...

Oh, I'm in a mood.

Oh, where to start, where to start. Do I share with you my rousing rendition of "The 12 Things I Hate about Chiarelli," sung to the melodious tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas"? Do I rant and rant and threaten and rant some more about how Chiarelli traded Nate DiCasmirro, and then had the ...stones (to put it delicately) to assign Manny Fernandez to Providence, where he is going to sully up my pristine, pretty ice (He's going to need more than divine intervention from the heavens above if he mucks around with my pBs' standings and record. In...

Dear Boston Bruins and Peter Chiarelli, Usually it is Heather that writes you these letters, but today it is my turn. I am very upset with your decision and timing on your recent trade. You see Mr. Chiarelli, I have had two FAVORITE players within the organization over the past 4 years and you have successfully traded them both away. Thank you so much Mr. Chiarelli for giving me one more reason to cheer for another team! It seems that bit by bit you like to trade away my loyalty and support. First it was Andrew Raycroft and now your...

Here We Go Again...Bruins vs Flyers

On Monday night the Boston Bruins took on the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. It was the first time the two teams met since the hit by Randy Jones that has sidelined the Bruins Patrice Bergeron indefinitely. With what I am sure were emotions flying high, the Bruins took the ice with goaltender Tuukka Rask in net. This was Rask's second NHL start, and with a little help from his teammates, his second NHL win. (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!) Alas I did not have the pleasure of watching the game as instead I kidnapped Cheri and took her on an...

Pre-Thanksgiving Confessions and Shockers

For starters, CONGRATULATIONS to Tuukka Rask on his first NHL game and his first NHL win. As many of you know, I am a huge Andrew Raycroft fan, and more than that, I am a dedicated fan. If you are someone I respect and admire, and even more if I feel that people are not giving you a chance, I will defend you up and down until I am blue in the face. This has never been more apparent than with Andrew Raycroft. I have taken criticism from friends and strangers alike and while I will never back down on...

Oh, and last night makes me 6-0. If I were any cooler, I'd have to wear shades.

TRANSACTIONS Previously, the Matts Lashoff and Hunwick were both recalled to Boston, and both were returned to Providence in time for the home opener. Phew. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to get mad at Lashoff's usually-streaky defensive play. (He made some excellent plays last night, though. Everyone was being a good goalie, which was convenient for Rask.) Rask was recalled from Providence today because -- shocker -- Manny is still broken. Maybe now it's not just me who is seeing the ludicrosity of trading a fantastic, talented prospect (Petr Kalus) for a goaltender who...

Catching Up....And Venting

So it has been a while since I have written here. I started out this season with good intentions but alas I have fallen down on the job. There are many reasons for this such as the fact that free time does not seem to exist any longer. Between working the Boston Bruins games, working with the Red Sox during the playoffs and all the other fun activities I have been partaking in, there is not even time to sleep. Another contributor is the fact that Providence has yet to have their home opener so I have only been to...

I am cranky cranky crrrranky today.

Today Patrice gave a bilingual press conference on his injury. I didn't say much about it, because, well, I wasn't there. I was taking my nieces back home after the pBruins game in Lowell that Saturday. We got a real-time narration of the events when Jess's mom called her for the FYI. I caught a replay of the hit that night. I read the news, and I was happy that the extent of his injuries was light, all things considered. But I didn't feel it was my place to comment on anything about it, partially because I missed it in...

Wednesday pastiche.

So I get all, "Internets, I'm going to write to you EVERY (week) DAYYYYY this month!" ... and then I disappear. I'm sorry internets. Sometimes life has a way of getting in the way of my hockey addiction. After going to Portland and back on Saturday, I went to Boston on Sunday, because my boys (the Sens, this time) were in town. Unlike Saturday's game, though, Sunday's was a bit of a snoozefest. Providence and Portland both skated and skated hard for 60 minutes on Saturday. On Sunday, not so much with the 60 minutes, at least on Ottawa's part....

Jordan Sigalet recalled to Boston.

Manny tweaked his knee (yes, that one). I'd say I'm shocked, but it'd be a lie. I am, however, excited for Jordan. -- Last Tuesday, when I was at Celebrity Bartending, my mother left me a voicemail message. Some tickets to the UML game on Friday night had been made available to her. Was I interested in some hockey? Well, of course. This is why I found myself flying at very unsafe speeds up highways to take me from Providence to Lowell's Tsongas Arena on Friday night. I was never into hockey when I was actually in college, and I...

News you can use (or something).

So, yesterday, Boston dropped forward Mikko Lehtonen, defenseman Jonathan Sigalet and center Vladimir Sobotka from camp. Jonathan and Vladimir were assigned to Providence -- and NO, I am NOT UPSET that was AFTER Providence's camp dismissed for the day. Why would I be upset about that? -- and Mikko will return to Espoo of the Finnish Elite League. So, TODAY, my least-favorite day in recent memory, mostly because today is not yesterday and today is not this past Saturday and today is NOT next Saturday, TODAY Boston decided to ice the cake and trade away Mark Mowers (to Anaheim; in...

Preseason Bruins vs Leafs....Just As I Remembered

So any doubts I had about being ready for hockey season to start...out the window! Any illusions about trying to find a balance between hockey and the rest of the things I have going on...out the window. I am now on a mission to find a way to do it all...and live through it! What has brought about this change in attitude? That would be the head first jump into the hockey world at the Boston Bruins vs Toronto Maple Leafs preseason game. Cheri, Jess S., and I teamed up to work the game where we met up with Jenna...

Boston makes more cuts.

Boston, they made some more cuts today. This is exciting for me because it means that I will not be seeing just four or five guys skate drills at pB camp tomorrow. Guys sent to Providence today: Byron Bitz, Sean Curry, Nate DiCasmirro, Matt Hendricks, Adam McQuaid, Pascal Pelletier, Wacey Rabbit, Jordan Sigalet, and T.J. Trevelyan. They join Dwayne Zinger, Jamison Orr, Alexandre Imbeault, Mark Tobin, B.J. Crum, Bill LeClerc, Steve MacIntyre, Daryl Boyle, Reid Jorgensen, Chris Collins, and Mike Brown. The number of boys I will recognize at pB camp: 12 of 20. That's more than 50%. I suppose...

Returned from a brief hiatus: Photo Friday XV: Peter. Schaefer.

I apologize for that brief hiatus- it was unintentional and unplanned. However, for me, this week's PF totally and completely makes up for it. I do not know if you share in my joy and enthusiasm for Peter Schaefer, but since this here is my website, it's subject to my whims and fancies. Internets, I really, really, really, REALLY like that Peter's on our team. It's indicative of how wishes, they do come true. More information about him after the picture. Boston obtained Peter this summer in a trade that send Shean Donovan to the Senators. Saskatchewan-born Peter, who just...

Training camp: news and notes.

Boston dismissed the following gentlemen from camp. They will rejoin their junior teams: Jordan Knackstedt (Moose Jaw - WHL), Denis Reul (Lewiston MAINEiacs - QMJHL), Radim Ostrcil (Ottawa 67's - OHL), and Adam Courchaine (Ottawa 67's - OHL). Boston dismissed the following gentlemen from camp, and Providence invited them to theirs: Daryl Boyle, Reid Jorgensen, and Jamison Orr (former Bruin Colton Orr's baby brother). Boston assigned the following gentlemen to Providence camp: Chris Collins and Mike Brown. Providence opens their camp September 22. The following boys made the trip to Newfoundland for the preseason game against the Islanders: Peter Schaefer,...

Hockey is getting cloooooosssseeeerrrrrrr...

Fluto posted a new article at the Globe, and it's mostly all about Mark Stuart. I believe this to be an excellent subject to discuss. My favorite points of interest: In 2006-07, Stuart made the most of his NHL playing time, finishing with a team-best plus-7 rating. When he's on his game, Stuart plays a mean, rugged style and doesn't back down from the rough stuff. Last season, Mark Stuart played 15 games in the NHL. FIFTEEN. The fact that he played so few games and wound up with the TEAM-BEST plus-minus absolutely blows my mind- and not in a...

A gallimaufry of goings-on

A couple things: 1. Stanislav Chistov has officially defected over to Russia. I am not excited. Also, does this mean Photo Friday is cursed? Of the 12 (un)willing participants, 25% have been bounced from the roster since taking part: Petr Kalus, Hannu Toivonen, and Stanislav Chistov. Coincidentally, those were the players I was ASKED to post. I'm no longer taking requests or listening to you people. 2. Providence has released their promotions schedule, and excitingly, they've spread the promotions out over the WHOLE season (that was my biggest beef with last year's- it was too concentrated at the end of...
