Working backwards, the ugly: Providence has yet to score a single goal this weekend. Worcester handed them a shuto-ut on Friday, which, in turn, handed ME my first loss of the hockey season. On one hand- hey, all the way through the first half of the season before that hit! On the other hand- dang it; that wasn't the auspicious start to 2008 I'd hoped for. Last night, Portland handed Providence ANOTHER shut-out. Opponents: 7, Providence: 0. Goaltender in net for Providence when all seven goals were scored? Rask. I'm just sayin'.
The bad: The military jerseys on Friday night. I know what the intention was, and I commend that intention. I live with someone who is patriotic in every way I am not, and I have a deep respect for the military. The jerseys, however, were just... bad.
This is where I'd put in a picture I took Friday to show you, but I am still without a computer. So, instead, I will encourage you to check out the auction Providence is hosting for the jerseys. You be the judge.
Also, don't be alarmed that Jonathan Sigalet's name is misspelled. This is something Providence does frequently, and it never fails to irritate me. Someone not familiar with a team, misspelling a name? Slightly excusable. Someone working FOR a team that the player plays on, misspelling a name, consistently? Inexcusable.
And finally, the good: Jordan Sigalet subbed in for Rask in the second period on Friday, playing so well, it almost hurt to watch. Well, at least until you realized that the pain? It was coming from the fact that Jordan -along with one or two others- was pretty much the only person on Friday night who showed up to play, outside of Worcester.
Other good things: because Providence has the best record in the league, head coach Scott Gordon and assistant coach Rob Murray will get to coach the PlanetUSA team at the All-Star Game in Binghamton, NY later this month. The coaches that won the game last year will get to coach the Canadian team.
