Jordan Sigalet recalled to Boston.

Manny tweaked his knee (yes, that one). I'd say I'm shocked, but it'd be a lie. I am, however, excited for Jordan.

Last Tuesday, when I was at Celebrity Bartending, my mother left me a voicemail message. Some tickets to the UML game on Friday night had been made available to her. Was I interested in some hockey?

Well, of course. This is why I found myself flying at very unsafe speeds up highways to take me from Providence to Lowell's Tsongas Arena on Friday night.

I was never into hockey when I was actually in college, and I wish I had been, because dang, the crowds are fun. College games are such a better show than pro games. I am pretty sure that the raunchy cheers are my favorite part. What can I say? I'll just never grow up.

I was a student at UMass-Lowell, once, and I suppose by that nature, I should have been rooting for the Riverhawks, but I wasn't. I don't know if it was because the University of Alabama-Huntington team was so woefully out-matched that I fell in love with the underdog, or it was the visible, endearing frustration their goalie was experiencing after every goal, but I started hoping for UAH to come out after an intermission and suddenly turn on the offense. It didn't happen; UML won, 4-1, with 33 shots on net to UAH's 9.

I forget, too, sometimes, that not everyone understands hockey. Sitting next to my mother, the entire game was a pop-quiz of calls and terminology. I'm not entirely sure I passed, either. Mostly because I have a terrible habit of forgetting everything I've ever learned over summer breaks. One year, I returned to school after summer vacation, and panicked in my first class because I'd forgotten how to write (I hadn't picked up a pen or pencil once the whole summer). True story.

Saturday morning, I picked up my nieces, I picked up Jess, and we all headed over to the Tsongas for some pBruins action. The Dunk not opening until November has been cramping my style. I'm enjoying the free time, yes (who knew that there were so many adventures to have?), but I am not liking this "driving all over creation" thing to go to games.

We'd barely taken our seats after the anthem, and Lowell scored. Not an auspicious start to the game.

I wish I could tell you more about the game (Rask was in net), but it's hard to keep track of forty-odd men and two tiny girls at the same time, particularly when one tiny girl is bent on hunting out the mascot, and will take any actions necessary to go give him a high-five, up to and including burrowing under the seats, Prison Break-style (colorful magic marker tattoos and all).

My favorite part of the game was when Providence won. I'm 3-0 on the season, folks. Providence is 6-1 on the season, which is good for first place in the division, second place in the conference. Their only loss thus far has come at the hands of Worcester.

I am looking forward to the home opener on the 14th, because who doesn't love hockey on their way home from work? I can't think of anyone. I know that I certainly love hockey in place of ridiculous rush hour traffic through Providence (it's been over five years that I've tasted it, and over a year that I've been embroiled in it, day after day, and STILL, the traffic amazes me).
