September 13, 2007
With training camp officially open, Bruins players are back in town gearing up for the 2007-2008 season. I set out this past summer with a mission to start doing all the things I have never done before. What a successful summer it was. I went to my first NASCAR race with Cheri, Ashley and Jake and two of their friends where I tailgated for the first time, got my first cowgirl hat, and had my first pulled pork sandwich. I also enjoyed the luxury suites at Gillette Stadium with Cheri when I went to my first New England Revolution game as they took on the L.A Galaxy. In addition, I spent a lot of time enjoying my favorite local band, and stirring up all kinds of trouble in Newport, RI where, after several weeks of research, I have selected my favorite local bar and come across a few decent bands. I also saw FAME for the first time on stage, had my first stuffed sole (a huge feat as I am not a fish lover), and went with Jen to see the Chippendales. Summer is also what I refer to as "dating" season as during the hockey season there does not seem to be too much free time for that, but the highlight of the summer was going to my first concert ever! Cheri and I went to see Rascal Flatts and would you not know- what a small world! While we were there we ran into Mike and Ricky (fellow Bruins fans) who we ended up spending the evening with in the pit!
All in all, a very eventful summer, but as it was coming to an end I became concerned because I was not getting overly excited for hockey season! I cut my season ticket in Providence back to a half season ticket because I decided that I was not ready to give up all of the things I have come to enjoy over the summer. Therefore, the goal for this season is to find a healthy balance and try to make time for EVERYTHING! Yikes!
But have no fear. As camp is now in session, I am starting to get excited for hockey again! With a few fun road trips planned already, I am looking forward to an exciting season. Unlike Heather though, right now my excitement lies with Boston. My game night work schedule has already been made and from September 22nd through January 1st (until I get my schedule for the second half of the season) it looks like the T.D. Banknorth Garden is going to be my home away from home. Sounds like there is a lot in store for fans this season. They are looking to make the fan experience even better and if it turns out anything like it was described to me over the phone, I am thinking the Garden is going to be the place to be. If Providence were to implement the same kinds of changes in addition to all of the promotion nights they are doing this year, I think the Dunk could be just as exciting an arena.
While I agree with Heather that Providence hockey is outstanding hockey and that the young players there are the future of the organization thus making it "a nice perspective on where the Bruins are heading," I am also very much looking forward to the here and now of the Bruins organization. I am excited to see the team that Boston puts together, both veterans and new faces alike. I am excited at the possibility that "this could be the year" (here is where my Red Sox fan mentality comes into play). I am looking forward to seeing the players in Providence make their way up to Boston throughout the season. One face I am very much hoping to see make an appearance at the Garden this year is Sean Curry. Curry has proven himself to be a very valuable player in Providence and I was very excited this summer to see Boston sign him thus giving him the opportunity to attend the Boston Bruins training camp, and potentially make an appearance in Boston at some point this season!
So with all the reminiscing about the summer out of the way, I am ready for some hockey. Here is to the 2007-2008 season and the anticipation of outstanding Boston and Providence Bruins teams this year.
