Boston signs Jeremy Reich; I ask questions.

We signed Jeremy Reich. I am excited by this because I like Jeremy and I didn't want to see some other undeserving team get him. However, we signed him to a two-year, one-way deal. That's all well and good for him, but now it makes me wonder where it leaves Providence- Jay Leach has signed a two year deal with Tampa Bay, we traded away Petr Kalus for a non-upgrade at goal, and no one else on the roster really strikes fear into my heart. If Marky's mad, I wouldn't want to cross him - same goes with DiCas, Pascal, or Nateful, but none of them really stick out as the fisticuffs go-to guy. They all have other roles on the team. (There's no guarantee Sean Curry will be back, and he's the only other one I wouldn't want to cross.)

Sigh. Have I mentioned that I hate the offseason? I know it's mostly because I hate change -well, bad change, anyways, and I have yet to perceive any of this offseason's changes as good. NO I AM NOT STILL MAD ABOUT PETR.

Speaking of, Jess and I were discussing the Petr trade today - because that's what we do when we can't watch the hockey; we discuss it until everyone within earshots wants to have us creatively bumped off- and we got to talking about what people do when their favorite player is traded away. I know that I keep tabs on several teams because of ex-Bruins. Los Angeles is one (Kevin Dallman), St. Louis is another (Braddy Boyes), Minnesota is still another (Brian Rolston!). I know there are teams I keep tabs on because of various adventures I've had (Ottawa, Washington, New Jersey). I've dated people who've given up on the home team and picked a new team because of how the standings were at that moment (Detroit). People also pick teams based on who is winning or just won a championship. This leads me to some questions.

What are your reasons for rooting for the teams you do? Why do you stick with the same teams, season in and season out? What makes you give up on the home team and pick a new one? How do you pick your new team? Is there an elaborate screening process? What, to you, classifies someone as a 'bandwagoner'?

These are not rhetorical. Hit the comments. A girl's gotta know.

Let me be the first to say, as i'm sure you know, my alligence lies with whatever team Andy Hilbert plays for. Go Islanders!! I can't say i've given up on the Bruins, but it gets discouraging at times when your team always looses, especially in the playoffs. So in my opinion, if your team is out of the playoffs, it is completely acceptable to pick a new one for the remainder of the playoffs. Some people may disagree with me, and I guess if you only pick a team cause there winning, that's jumping on the bandwagon. But if I wasn't flexible enough to cheer for more than one team I would have never seen my first NHL playoff game in NY.

I bleed black and gold because of two of my best friends. I never really followed sports when I was younger and they made me watch a game in 8th grade and I was just fasinated at the speed and the grit of the team. Then, the obsession began. Of course the past couple seasons have been a bummer but no matter how much they hurt me, I keep coming back for more. I can't seem to give up on them.

As for bandwagoners (I'll skip my rant on how they should be tarred and feathered), it's those 'fans' who like a team just because they are doing greath and just forget about them when they aren't doing great. A true fan stays by their team, through good times and bad times.

Well.

I cheer for whatever team appears on my paycheck. Hence the Oilers background on my computer.

But my heart does lie with the Bruins, since it's the first teamm I ever cheered for. Mainly because I had a Bruins starter jacket that I got for free at camp. I picked the Bruins jacket, because it had a "B" which I thought stood for baseball (btw, I cheered for the Steelers due to the fact that they shared the same colors as my "baseball" jacket).

Then the ex reinforced the Bruins for me, since being a Mass native he was a huge Boston fan (didn't hurt that his cousin was a Bruin either!).

So the B's will always be my first love, but I'll sell my soul to any team that will sign a check over to me twice a month.

I started with Boston because they were my first pro team. And up until the lockout, I was madly, madly in love with them. Then with the lockout, I got way more familiar with the AHL, and I don't know; I just fell in love. To the point where I was dreading the return of the NHL. Post-lockout, I was enthused for the Bruins, but found myself drawn to Providence. Readjusting to watching hockey on TV was something I never quite got the hang of. I don't know if it's because the lockout spoiled me with all the games I attended in person, or what my deal is/was, but I am having a hard time re-finding my love for Boston as I get more familiar with other players and other teams.
