Dear Boston.
This was stupid. I hate you a lot, right now.
No love for morons,
Heather

Dear Mr. Chiarelli;
No longer are you a friend of mine. Before you run for the Kleenex and the soft, comforting shoulder of a dear friend, hear me out.
We are not breaking up because you traded for Manny Fernandez; we are breaking up because of what you traded for Manny Fernandez.
Petr is a fantastic prospect (kudos to Minnesota for recognizing that), and he demonstrated that when he was on recall to Boston at the end of that sorry excuse for a season last year. He was one of the boys with a Providence address that was ready to start contributing in Boston on a regular basis. Even if he had not made the big team straight out of camp (which would have been blasphemous) he would have done the I-95 ride several times this upcoming season, and each time, he would have never failed to impress and gardner accolades. At worst, he would have seen a scandalous amount of minutes in Providence, refining and bettering his skills, which would have had insanely crazy payoff skills for Boston. And isn't that what the prospect system in Providence is about? Isn't it about getting an absolutely terrific return on investment?
Trading him -and a draft pick - for a so-so goaltender who ate up about half our available cap space was just stupid. Boston's goaltending, it is a problem. It still is- sadly, this trade did not solve this. What it did, instead, was weaken us up front. Petr would have done well with Boston, probably eventually settling in full-time this upcoming season somewhere around the third line, maybe even seeing time on the second if he was a good boy. With that available cap space, we could have had a good time plugging up some of the holes. With our available cap space now, we might be able to stop a chilly draft, maybe, but that's about it.
I hope that you have a Bigger Plan in mind with the dawning of free agency, but I have to say- my faith has been dealt a big blow, and I'm not entirely sure I trust that you're going to do well left to your own devices.
This kind of a trade requires a grand gesture, Peter. The kind of gesture that involves not just flowers and chocolates, but the purchase of expensive and impractical shoes, many diamonds, and possibly the gift of an entire private island, wrapped up nice and pretty with a big pink bow. But even then, that might not be enough.
And those rumors you're going to hear? The ones about me dating a new team with a younger, sexier GM? Don't you worry your bespeckled bald head about them. This trade is just another reason for me to love Minnesota.
It was fun while it lasted,
Heather.

Dear Minny;
Your place or mine? I'll bring the wine.
XOXO,
Heather

Shmee said: Your blog was right on. Manny is a blow hard who puts himself before teams. He caused lots of tense moments in the Wild lockeroom. I dont get some of the stuff Chiarelli has been doing. He has traded away some solid prospects, like Jurcina.
