Providence 3, Albany 4 (SO)

I like to declare things, internets. This habit of mine harkens back to an airplane trip where one of the handy forms in the SkyMall magazine asks you if you have anything to declare for customs. So I declared several things, starting with the fact that I'm awesome, and degenerating into all kinds of smart-assery from there.

Tonight, Becky and I were going back and forth about why I don't cheer for Nate Thompson as loudly as I do for say, anyone else on the team. I pointed out to her that last night, I'd promised whichever deities govern hockey that I'd love the snot out of the kid if he scored in the shootout. I should have modified the declaration with an, "if Providence wins," because Nate scored, and now I am stuck, loving the snot out of him. Kind of gross.

So we're going back and forth, and she eggs me into declaring that if Jordan got the start tonight, I would cheer for Nate Thompson, loudly. This, internets, is what is generally referred to as "foreshadowing."

Jordan Sigalet remains unbeaten in regulation, though took his first loss of the season tonight as Providence lost to Albany, 4-3, in a shoot-out. Because, YES, ONE shootout was NOT ENOUGH THIS WEEKEND. At best, I can only gander that Providence was hoping to render me catatonic so that I wouldn't be at the player skate on Tuesday. They, however, were not so lucky, and will bear witness to the circus-act-on-skates that is me.

The game was pretty fun. I cheered and yelled myself hoarse. This was the first game in awhile where I'd done that. (This is what happens when Becky and I sit together. We get loud.) During the anthem, the high-schoolers are singing their hearts out about the rockets' red glare giving proof that our flag was still there, and you can hear a faint cheering coming from the concourse where there are still people gathered in front of the televisions broadcasting the football game. Touchdown, Patriots.

Providence led the game, 2-0, until 1:36 to go in the first period (goals by Matt Lashoff, assists by Ben Walter/Nate Thompson, and Dave Krejci/Nate Dempsey). Albany scored in the final two minutes of the first period, and then twice again in the second period to tie it up and take the lead. Providence fought back in the third, finally tying the game and forcing overtime (goal from Dave Krejci from Bobby Allen and Dwayne Zinger). No score in overtime, and so we went to the shootout. Eleven rounds. ELEVEN. That, for those of you playing along at home, is three more rounds then we went last night, and is twelve more rounds then I can stand.

Providence's shooters were Dave Krejci, Kris Versteeg, Ben Walter, Nate Thompson, and Pascal Pelletier. Albany's were Keith Aucoin, Shane Willis, Ben Guite, Pat Dwyer, and Peter Tsimikalis. Ben and Keith both scored in the shoot-out because ex-Bruins will always come back to haunt you. And yes, Guite did score Albany's first goal in regulation, as well as tally an assist, why are you asking? Salt, meet wound. Wound, meet salt.

Pictures will be up eventually. Pictures from yesterday's game in Springfield are up, but I didn't send an email yet; wanted to get these pictures up first. Link to the gallery is in the right hand sidebar.

Dave Krejci and Martins Karsums will be at Shaws in Warwick tomorrow from 4-6pm, selling bags of food to benefit the RI Food Pantry. For each $10 bag of food you buy, you get a pair of tickets to an upcoming home game, and for each $15 bag of food you buy, you get four tickets to an upcoming game.

Thursday, Wacey Rabbit(t), Jeremy Reich, and Dwayne Zinger will be at Fire + Ice at the Providence Place Mall for a Tip-a-Bruin event from 6-8pm, selling raffle tickets to autographed merchandise, and other assorted goods, as well as working the grill. All proceeds benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.
