Ohhh, internets. I can't take the shoot-out in person. I like it from afar, when I am watching it on tv, I have decided, because watching it on tv forces a detachment that being there in person does the exact opposite of, and I'm a delicate flower. I can't take that kind of emotional stress that an in-person shootout causes.
For the first period, Providence played really well. Scored the first goal less then two minutes into the first period, and added a second (TJ Trevelyan! first point as a Bruin!) a little later in the frame. And then we went to intermission, came back for the second, and were just completely dominated by the Falcons. Providence kept up with them, but we allowed the Falcons to score twice to tie it. And internets, I do like me some nail-bitingly close hockey, but... I don't know. There was something about the game tonight that just made me uncomfortable. It made me want to score a couple dozen extra goals to make sure that we'd win. The game went into overtime, where no one scored, because really, why distress Heather with just overtime when we can go all the way and distress her with a shoot-out? I can't think of any good reason not to; can you?
Eight rounds. That's how long my organs were twisted in knots waiting for a decision to be made. Eight long rounds. Springfield scored three times, and Providence was only able to score twice. Who scored the goal they were beaten by in the shoot-out? Oh, Zdenek Blatny, the scorer we traded away for goaltending help (Brian Eklund; not playing this season) last season when it was apparent that Tim Thomas's recall to Boston was going to be longer then a couple games and we figured some extra relief for Jordan would be dandy. And ex-Bruin Eric Healey helped add insult to injury with a tally too. I really hope this isn't indicative of what Albany plans to do at the Dunk tomorrow (ex-Bruins on that roster include Keith Aucoin, Ben Guite, and Dave Gove), because I might cry for seasons past.
Scratches tonight for Providence included: Bobby Allen, Nate DiCasmirro (IR), Nate Dempsey, Petr Kalus (IR: knee; may miss up to a month), Wade Brookbank, Martins Karsums (IR), and Yan Stastny (IR: groin strain).
Pictures from tonight are up here. And I will possibly do a game preview after I get some sleep. I kind of like knowing random stats going into a game. It makes refuting irrational shouts about which team sucks so much better to parry off.
Providence is still second in the division, leading Lowell (lost in OT to the Sound Tigers tonight) by a single point in the standings.
