Providence 1, Lowell 0.

Oh internets. I'm so very glad I went to the game tonight. Not only did Jordan get to start, but he got a shutout when Jon scored the only goal of the game on a power play during the second period. Lowell was done in by the Sigalet brothers, and I loved it like a fat kid loves cake.

Jeremy Reich wore the C tonight as Jay Leach served a one-game suspension for the fracas from last Saturday night. Other scratches included Yan Stastny, Nate DiCasmirro, Wade Brookbank, and Martins Karsums. Petr Kalus was injured in the first, and after skating one shift, he disappeared into the locker room and didn't return. Chris Collins was recalled from Long Beach to replace him for the time being.

Providence is in Springfield tonight (because it's after midnight, and technically, it's tomorrow).

With the win over the Devils, Providence is now 12-7-1-0, and second place in the division. Springfield is 11-10-0-0 and in sixth place in the division.

Providence's power play when away is ranked 11th in the league, converting on 9 chances of 47. Springfield's penalty kill unit is ranked 7th in the league, allowing only 6 goals on 49 chances. Providence's penalty kill unit is ranked 24th in the league, allowing 13 goals on 48 chances. Springfield's power play unit when at home is ranked 23rd in the league, converting only 9 chances out of 60.

Springfield's goaltenders are as such:
Jonathan Boutin- 4 GP, 2.99 GAA, 0.901 SV%
Sean Burke- 7 GP, 4.52 GAA, 0.856 SV%

Providence's goaltenders:
Philippe Sauve: 12 GP, 5-6-0, 3.75 GAA, 0.883 SV%
Jordan Sigalet: 5 GP, 4-0-0, 2.89 GAA, 0.898 SV%

Springfield's top six scorers:
Norm Milley (21 GP, 8 G, 12 A)
Eric Healey (21 GP, 8 G, 11 A)
Justin Keller (21 GP, 6 G, 7 A)
Zdenek Blatny (15 GP, 5 G, 6 A)
Andy Delmore (20 GP, 5 G, 6 A)
Blair Jones (18 GP, 4 G, 8 A)

How many ex-Bruins can you count on that list? I count three.

Providence's top six scorers:
Kris Versteeg (18 GP, 9 G, 13 A)
Ben Walter (15 GP, 8 G, 7 A)
Pascal Pelletier (19 GP, 7 G, 10 A)
Martins Karsums (14 GP, 6 G, 5 A)
Jonathan Sigalet (19 GP, 7 G, 3 A)
Dave Krejci (16 GP, 5 G, 13 A)

I won't lie internets: I really liked winning over Lowell, and I'd really like to win over Springfield. Mostly because I'm going to the game with an old college friend who's not too up-to-speed on the whole "hockey" thing, and honestly, isn't a win one of the best ways to learn? Yeah, I think so too.

Pictures from the game against Lowell are up.

I am just looking at Jordan's numbers that you have posted and from what I heard about him last year and this year I have a question for you. I ask you because you seem to be the formost authority of the PB's. Why does he not play more??? Why?? Why is he never called up? Why?? Am I missing something or is this just another case of hockey favortism towards others? Maybe you can help me out here but with his ovious talent and great numbers why doesn't he play more? I do not get to see Providence play but from every thing I have read and heard about this guy I am left scratching my head as to his lack of icetime.

You and him both. He was called up a couple times last season -and even played in the NHL (42 seconds is still 42 seconds more then I (or most) have ever played in the NHL). However, he'd been primarily called up because of the $75,001 rule in the new CBA- any player making that amount or over in the AHL must clear waivers to be recalled. This is to avoid the NHL "stashing" players in the AHL to be under cap. Tim Thomas had signed a contract valued at $450k for last season, and Boston didn't want to risk losing him to waivers. Jordan got the nod over Tim until January, when we "snuck" Tim through, and well, you know the rest from there.

As to why he's been sitting this season, ask the coach. It has nothing to do with his MS, either. He'd suffered a cracked rib during the preseason (why we had Brian, Jordan, and Mike Brown in Providence for the first few weeks of the season), but even once he was healthy, he continued to sit. The best I can gander is that Coach liked his handwriting (scratched goaltenders in Pvd. get to record who wins faceoffs all game) better then Brian's. I still want to know why he's been scratched, but each time he's played, he's been phenomenal, particularly in the third period when the team needs it the most, and I'm like a proud mother hen over here, all clucking happy and thrilled about his shut-out last night.

Heather, if you could get me a way to contact Coach Gordon (email or phone # or fax) I would be more than happy to inquire about Jordans lack of playing. Like I said, I don't see the PB's play, but from all media reports on them his lack of icetime seems to be a mystery. If there is a reason for this I think us the fans have a right to know what it is!

Yay! You should just transfer to a college in Providence. Makes seeing The Awesome much easier.
