August 1, 2006
Guess what! It's AUGUST. We are ONE MONTH closer to HOCKEY!
HI! It's WAY EARLY in the MORNING (or way late at night, depending on how you look at it) and since I am over-caffeinated and still up because of the coffee that I had well over twelve hours ago, I thought I would stop in and tell you a few things, in no order of importance:
- Jiri Slegr signed over in Europe. So did ex-Bruin Sean Brown. Ex-Monarch Chris Schmidt is staying over there for a second go-round, with a different German team then last season. JUST WHAT IS SO ATTRACTIVE ABOUT EUROPE, BOYS?
- Mike Cammalleri signed another one year deal with LA. I have my own theories about the length of his contract and why he only gets one-year deals. Mike; call me- we'll do lunch and discuss them.
- I forget what else I wanted to tell you.
- OH YEAH. The Bruins added some more staff. And some hockey players. (Staff: Jim Benning [director of player personnel], Doug Houda [asst coach], Wayne Smith [regional scout]. Hockey boys: Wade Brookbank [defenseman], Jason York [defenseman], Jeff Hoggan [left wing]; all three are on one-year contracts. )
- The pBruins announced their three-game preseason schedule, which BY THE WAY, has only amplified the effects of the caffeine by eleventy thousand percent, and it is as follows:
Wed, Sept 27 7:05 p.m. vs. Bridgeport @ Bradford R. Boss Arena (URI)
Sat, Sept 30 7:05 p.m. vs. Springfield @ MassMutual Center (Springfield, MA)
Sun, Oct 1 1:00 p.m. vs Springfield @ Bridgewater (Massachusetts) Ice Arena.
Tickets for the URI game and the MassMutual Center game are onsale starting August 25th. Ticket information for the game at Bridgewater is available at bridgewatericearena.com or by calling (508) 279-0600 ext. 101.
- I know that "eleventy" is not a real number. Also: shush.
- The AHL should be releasing their schedule sometime this week. Here is a handy-dandy feature article on how schedules are made. Apt readers of theahl.com (like yours truly) will notice that this is eerily similar to the article they posted last summer on the same topic.
- Speaking of schedules, the NHL schedule is out, too. (No, I am not planning any roadtrips.) (That previous parenthetical note was a COMPLETE LIE.)
- Jordan and Jon Sigalet, as well as ex-Bruin (that hurt me to type) Ben Guite were in Massachusetts last week for the Mass chapter of the MS Society, participating in a golf tournament. (I heard that the local Boston news reported that Jordan had signed with Boston, but there's still no official word from the Bruins, and this kind of limbo is driving me nuts. NUTS.) There are pictures from the tournament here.
- The University of Michigan is having their annual summer hockey showcase this weekend (Aug. 4th). One of the names attending this year that you might recognize is Andy Hilbert. You can find more info here.
- I think that's everything for now. I will be spending the month of August moving in with a hockey friend. Should you hear tale on the news of any armageddons or that the planets are on newly-charted paths to a sure collision, don't worry, it's just us, moving all the fun and adventure to a centrally-located headquarters. Any armageddons or planet collisions that occur won't affect the opening of training camps, I promise.
