Fin

I think it goes without saying that I am disappointed in Providence's 5-4 loss to Portland last night, and thusly, Providence's playoff exit. The disappointment is extra strong because this year, I believed they could have won the Calder Cup if they wanted, because they had all the pieces. I always believe in my team, but this year felt different. This year felt like Their Year. They spent close to two-thirds (or more; my math is shabby and my ability to deal with fractions even shabbier) as the number one team in the league. For the first time that I...

Boston's 2007-2008 Season Comes To A Close Leaving Fans Hungry For 2008-2009.

Well another season comes to a close for the Boston Bruins as they fell 5 - 0 to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 7 of Round One of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Despite the first round elimination however, this team has a lot to be proud of! When the 2007-2008 season began sports analysts never gave this team a fighting chance. They were not expected to play well let alone make it to the playoffs. After taking hits such as losing their star scorer, the team rallied together and posted wins. Enough wins to take them to the playoffs where...

Three down, 13 to go.

Boston bounced back from a deficit to tie the series with Montreal at 3-3. Game 7 is tomorrow night in Montreal. I am not sure I will be able to watch through both eyes at once. Someone once said to me -- when circumstances were eerily similar to this in 2004 -- that rookie goaltenders don't win playoff series. Whether it was a haunting prophecy then or it was just a comment designed to push my buttons because I made it a point to root against the Red Sox that year at every chance I was given (I'm going with...

Playoffs are in the air.

The problem with having a roommate who talks hockey as much as I do is that I don't need to talk about it on the interwebs so much. Regardless of the fact that I haven't been posting pictures (or taking them, really), I have faithfully been going to Friday night games in Providence. It is the one night a (work)week that I do not have to deal with my most favorite by-product of the RI DOT -- the 195/95 interchange. The only other highway I feel this much hate and loathing for during rush hour traffic is Rte 3, from...

Five things.

2008 has not been a kind year to me thus far, and dealing with the multiple fall-outs has kept me from writing here. I like to maintain my air of mystery, so rather than dwelling on the non-hockey negative, and because I finally have MY COMPUTER back (all hail the baby brother, king of technical computer stuff!) here's five things I've been meaning to talk to you about but have been unable to do so: 5. I have no idea who is even on the Boston team any more. Because when I check out of things, I apparently check out...

How Much Is That Referee On The Blue Line?

Compared to the Providence Bruins game on Sunday vs. the Worcester Sharks, the Super Bowl seemed awfully anticlimactic. Maybe it was because the P-Bruins won and the Pats lost. Maybe it was because unlike the hockey officials, the football officials knew how to call a game! Either way I know that I was content to watch the big game in the comfort of my own home, under the covers with the laptop catching up work and getting my taxes done. Lame...maybe. But when you are always running in different directions, a little down time isn't so bad! The Providence game...

Internets, January is trying very hard to kick my ass. Know that I am super-proud of Pascal for getting called up (I wish I could have gone to the game), know that Providence did really well last night and that I am so proud and ecstatic that they are continuing to do so well, know that I have about 2 full memory cards' worth of pictures (and that my computer hasn't misbehaved for anyone else) to show you, and know that I plan to be as attentive as possible once I am able to stop having to keep making lemonade...

The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Working backwards, the ugly: Providence has yet to score a single goal this weekend. Worcester handed them a shuto-ut on Friday, which, in turn, handed ME my first loss of the hockey season. On one hand- hey, all the way through the first half of the season before that hit! On the other hand- dang it; that wasn't the auspicious start to 2008 I'd hoped for. Last night, Portland handed Providence ANOTHER shut-out. Opponents: 7, Providence: 0. Goaltender in net for Providence when all seven goals were scored? Rask. I'm just sayin'. The bad: The military jerseys on Friday night....

Boston Bruins 18th Annual Charity Wives' Carnival 2008

The Boston Bruins 18th Annual Charity Wives' Carnival took place at the T.D. Banknorth Garden on January 6, 2008. The funds raised were donated to Cradles to Crayons, a local charity based out of Quincy, MA. Cheri and I had the pleasure of working with members of Cradles to Crayons for the two games prior to the carnival. They were absolutely wonderful people and it was very refreshing to see people so dedicated to helping the less fortunate children all over the state of Massachusetts. The members of Cradles to Crayons work specifically to provide school supplies, winter coats and...

Oh, internets. Being without my very own computer is taking its toll on my delicate psyche, and not just because I haven' t heard head nor tail of what the repairs are going to cost, but because I miss all my files and my programs and my bookmarks. Wireless internet is grand, but I don't mind being tethered to the cable router, because I like my desk. I miss my hard drive, and that is sad. What is NOT sad, not even a little bit, is the fact that Providence is representing with three players at the AHL All-Star game...

Happy 2008.

I know I checked out on you for a bit there, internets. I was off making holidays merry, reconnecting with a delightful sense of holiday spirit, and totaling up some personal accomplishments. When I was done with those shenanigans, I came home from gallivanting to discover that while Santa didn't leave the well-deserved lump of old-school coal in my stocking (here I was thinking that I'd dodged a bullet), he'd instead exacted his revenge on my dual-personality year of bad-girl-vs.-good-girl by breaking my computer. Because I'm so proud.

Tonight, Providence played a full sixty minutes and won a hard game from Chicago. Tonight, they improved their record to 19-3-2-0. Tonight, they are the top team in the league. Not the division, not the conference- the league. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, Sunday, or next weekend, tonight -- tonight! -- I am immensely proud of those boys. They're doing good. They're going to go far. They've improved my record to something nuts, like 10-0, but I've lost count. I'm encouraged by their crazy strong start. I'm ... dare I say... lovin' it....

Things that need to end with a quickness: 15-minute warmups. What is this, Boston? Things that need to start with a quickness: Some kind of score summary on the Jumbotron at the start of the second and third periods. This weekend, Providence faced two teams we don't hardly ever get to see: the Rockford Ice Hogs (Chicago), and the Rochester Americans (Buffalo & Florida). Friday's game was against Rockford. Here We Go Again...Bruins vs Flyers

On Monday night the Boston Bruins took on the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia. It was the first time the two teams met since the hit by Randy Jones that has sidelined the Bruins Patrice Bergeron indefinitely. With what I am sure were emotions flying high, the Bruins took the ice with goaltender Tuukka Rask in net. This was Rask's second NHL start, and with a little help from his teammates, his second NHL win. (CONGRATULATIONS!!!!) RASK, FERNANDEZ, AND YOU I'd had a fantastic rant all prepared about how blah blah blah, Rask in the NHL is kind of dumb at this point in his career, and didn't you people watch the development of this kid named Andrew Raycroft and how we pretty much screwed him up, and then we repeated the same mistakes with this other kid named Hannu Toivonen, and why do we have to exact the same history on tender goalie prospects and then I took a deep breath. For starters, CONGRATULATIONS to Tuukka Rask on his first NHL game and his first NHL win. As many of you know, I am a huge Andrew Raycroft fan, and more than that, I am a dedicated fan. If you are someone I respect and admire, and even more if I feel that people are not giving you a chance, I will defend you up and down until I am blue in the face. Oh, and last night makes me 6-0. If I were any cooler, I'd have to wear shades.

TRANSACTIONS Previously, the Matts Lashoff and Hunwick were both recalled to Boston, and both were returned to Providence in time for the home opener. Phew. I don't know what I would do if I wasn't able to get mad at Lashoff's usually-streaky defensive play. (He made some excellent plays last night, though. Everyone was being a good goalie, which was convenient for Rask.) Rask was recalled from Providence today because -- shocker -- Manny is still broken. Catching Up....And Venting

So it has been a while since I have written here. I started out this season with good intentions but alas I have fallen down on the job. There are many reasons for this such as the fact that free time does not seem to exist any longer. Another contributor is the fact that Providence has yet to have their home opener so I have only been to...

Today Patrice gave a bilingual press conference on his injury. I didn't say much about it, because, well, I wasn't there. I was taking my nieces back home after the pBruins game in Lowell that Saturday. We got a real-time narration of the events when Jess's mom called her for the FYI. Sometimes life has a way of getting in the way of my hockey addiction. After going to Portland and back on Saturday, I went to Boston on Sunday, because my boys (the Sens, this time) were in town. Unlike Saturday's game, though, Sunday's was a bit of a snoozefest. Providence and Portland both skated and skated hard for 60 minutes on Saturday. Quick notes; details later: Manchester's giveaway tonight was a tiny replica of their Atlantic Conference banner. There was huge fanfare about unveiling it. Sad that it will hang lonely in the rafters for many years to come. I just want to go on record RIGHT NOW and state that those new jerseys? They are some of the ugliest that I have ever seen. Catching Up...

Several things to discuss today...though I guess they are all inter-related. On Wednesday evening I was kidnapped and held hostage for the entire evening by a crazy hockey fan. She dragged me at gunpoint (or maybe it was more like a tube of mascara to my head) from my desk at work to the car in which she child proof locked my door so I could not jump out. I love the whole hockey season, from start to finish, but if I had to, absolutely HAD to pick, I would pick training camp as my most favorite part. The reasons why are varied, and they bounce from it being the first live hockey after a long hiatus, to being so full of potential and hope for the season ahead that it's just bursting at the seams with all the possibilities, to just pure joy that one of my most favorite things to watch is back and here for my taking. That said, one of the most difficult parts of...
