So, Jenni's here. And she's from the South, where people are nice and polite and there's not nearly enough hockey, though there's a ton of college basketball. In addition to this, she'd never been to a Bruins game in Boston. That's something that all Bruins fans should do, at least once. You have to see the home team at home, so we picked the Boston/Ottawa game. When designing the schedule, the NHL looked at March, and was like, "how might we make March the most delightful month for Heather that we possibly can?" And lo and behold, the NHL decided they would send the Senators for my pre-birthday warmup, as the event that started off the Birthday Festivities. (The NHL wants me back, desperately. They miss my love.)
And the game started off well. Boston was leading 2-0 (Braddy Boyes and Patrice Bergeron, ex-pBs representin' AGAIN, and Mark Stuart with his first NHL point, representin' for the current pBruins), because they were all like, WOOO! JENNI IS HERE! (She is something ridiculous, like, 6-0 when attending games in New England.) But then, Jason Spezza was like, "Yo, I can't NOT score for Heather!" So he went and ruined Tim's shut-out bid in the third period. And then Antoine Vermette was mad that Patrice had scored and he hadn't, so he was all, HA! and tied the game. It was pretty. We still had some time left in the third, but Jenni turned to me and said, "I do not want to see a shoot-out." I was like, maybe we will win it in overtime, because that would be delightful. Except, no, that's not how it went.
So then there's overtime. Y'all, I am not so good with the overtime, because it makes me nervous. And there's no winner in overtime, because why wouldn't we face the Senators in a shoot-out? They have all kinds of offensive weapons, like Jason Spezza and Dany Heatley. And we... had the albatross around our necks of having never won a shoot-out, and the distinction of being the only team to have never won one this season. I admit, I was not optimistic, though I was hopeful.
Patrice scored the only goal of the shoot-out. Daniel Alfredsson, Dany Heatley, and Jason Spezza were all kept scoreless by Tim. Y'all, when Boston won, I was excited, but also sad that the Senators did not win. Because I love them too (and kind of wanted them to win). You know what I'm going to say next right? That Boston won it in a shoot-out for me, because it's my almost-birthday. And I'm totally going to take credit for the win, even though I have never in my life laced up hockey skates and played that game on ice, and I will take credit for the win even though I do not coach that team, did not build that team, and my involvement with that team is basically just showing up at the arena every now and then with no kind of regularity, and you cannot stop me. Do not even try. Boston won that shoot-out for me.
Tonight, to celebrate the holiday where everyone is Irish, Jenni and I are rollin' on down to Providence, where we will join Jess and Rachel in cheering for the pBruins until we are hoarse. If you're going to drink beer this evenin' in celebration of snakes being banished from Ireland, be a man and drink a Guinness; none of that green-colored crap. Be smart and get a designated driver, because while SVO condones fun and frolic, we do not condone underage drinking or drunk driving. Happy Friday, y'all.
