Went to Springfield to see the pBs play yesterday. I have never seen the pBs win a game in regulation there. However, Providence is 4-0 when I attend games in Springfield. They really ought to just let me ride with them. I'm gettin' tired of all the driving.
We had two new guys- Brian Schmidt and Ryan Gaucher. Brian is signed to a ATO and Ryan is signed to a PTO. (Difference: ATO- Amateur Tryout, PTO- Professional Tryout) Brian was scratched for the game. Both are defensemen.
Yan Stastny was assigned to Providence, but he hasn't shown up here yet. He was not at the game yesterday. Perhaps he will be there today. (It's like Christmas! You don't know what you're going to get!) It's a surprise!
Providence is back to playing the way the pBs I love and cherish for all time play. They kind of sneezed and faltered over the Olympic break, when there was a modicum of more attention focused on them with the NHL on break, but ladies and gentlemen, they're back. This makes me happy.
Jordan started in net for Providence, and had a strong shut-out bid (pB goals from Eric Healey in the first, and Ben Guite in the second. This is the first time Ben has ever scored 20 goals in a season in his entire career) going until the third period. Ryan Gaucher was whistled for tripping about three minutes in, and... Springfield scored. I was sad. Then Blatny tied it up (of COURSE it was Blatny; because why wouldn't it be the dude we traded away?), and it was ON. Particularly with the annoying Springfield fans behind us. We had nothing to worry about though; forty-five seconds into OT, Eric Nickulas scored the winning goal (assisted by Ben Guite). (Jess reports that she was not thrilled with the game being decided in overtime.)
I have decided that Springfield is perhaps my favorite arena to see a game at. I will have to go next week and make sure.
The Tennessee chapter of SVO reports that despite Boston's loss to the NYI last night, Mark Stuart played swimmingly well in his NHL debut (Jurcina is out with a shoulder injury). SVO Headquarters was sad to miss the game, but c'mon- you can't expect HQ to turncoat on the pBs juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust because someone they love dearly is up in Boston.
Today, the pBs are collecting peanut butter for charity, and there will be an autograph signing after the game. I know Jonathan Sigalet is one of the players; I do not know who the other one will be. The team's warm-up jersey auction has begun. Who wants to get me Jonathan Girard's for my birthday? Other players you might not expect that have jerseys being auctioned off are Andrew Alberts, Tim Thomas, and Milan Jurcina (it's been awhile since those boys have been in Providence). Opening bids are $250, and the auction is going until April 1st.
