March 09, 2006
First, the belated: Keith Aucoin is the AHL player of the week.
Ben Walter was recalled because Sergei Samsonov got broken. Because Sammy is A-OK now, Ben's been returned to Providence. This is exciting for me, because it means that I can see a complete pBruins team tomorrow night. (And that's what it's all about, folks.)
Today at 3pm is the trade deadline in the NHL. Boston hasn't been very busy - only acquiring Mariusz Czerkawski off waivers from Toronto, and that was yesterday.
In other ex-Bruins trade news, Sean O'Donnell has been traded to Anaheim from Phoenix for future considerations, and Sean Brown has been traded to Vancouver for a 2006 fourth-round pick. Andy Hilbert has been claimed off waivers (placed there by Chicago) by the Pittsburgh Penguins.
In non-Bruins trade news, LA traded away Denis Grebeshkov, Jeff Tambellini, and a 2006 conditional third-round pick for Mark Parrish and Brent Sopel from the NYI. This is good news for the pBruins, mostly because it weakens Manchester just a wee bit (though I admit I do not know how the ripple effect will ripple on down to Manchester, as I do not follow LA NEARLY as closely as I follow Boston [which says a WHOLE LOT right there] ).
The Avs traded David Aebischer to Montreal for Jose Theodore. Why the Avs would trade for a currently-broken goalie (Jose fractured his heel, but is expected back later this month/early April) is beyond me, but they've recalled Vitaly Kolesnik from Lowell in the meantime. This is Vitaly's second recall of the season, I think. He was with the Avs earlier in the season and did pretty well.
I may or may not update this post as the day progresses for a couple reasons, one being that I have other things to do, and one being that I sliced my right-hand middle finger the other day, and it's REALLY HARD to type - let alone type coherently- with a big ol' Care Bears bandaid on your fingertip. I'm so cool, it hurts.

EDIT: Boston traded Sergei Samsonov to Edmonton for Marty Reasoner, Yan Stastny, and a second-round pick. Jess mentioned the talks between Edmonton and Boston to me around noon, but I didn't think much of it. The trade was confirmed sometime around three. I was too busy watching "There and Back" with former O-Towner Ashley Parker Angel on Mtv to care much. I'm just glad that the brass didn't touch any of my pBruins. Otherwise, I'm kind of apathetic towards the trade. I think it was stupid to drop Sergei, but I also thought it was stupid to trade Joe Thornton. Maybe I'll really dig this Stastny kid. We'll see.

SECOND EDIT: Ben Walter is back with Boston temporarily, because Sergei can't play for Boston tonight.

I am sorry to hear you hurt your finger. I hope that you get better soon cause I like to read your stuff.
Was pretty quite on the trade front. Were you sorry to see Sammy leave Boston? I was not. I saw this one coming. He was the last bad cog on the wheel of not working in Boston.
My mom and I will be going to San Jose for a week at the end of March so she promised to get us tickets to see Big Joe play. She said we probably won't get to talk to him but I am sending him a letter to tell him I hope he plays good cause I have really miss him in Boston.
I asked my mom if we could take the lap top or the tablet so I can check in your site everyday when I get done swimming. I don't get to go on a lot of trips with her and I don't always like to cause she is too busy most of the time but I did really want to see Big Joe play at the Shark Tank. Is that a cool name for an arena? I wish you could come with us too, that would be fun. You could take pictures and maybe we could see Big Joe and shake his hand.

Heather said: Oh, have fun in San Jose! Say hi to Joe for me! I miss him too! I have never been to California. Have fun for me, and swim a lap for me! I used to like to do flips under water and cannonballs off the diving boards.
I'm not really sad to see Sammy leave; I'm pretty grey-area on him. I liked his offensive production, but I thought he was really delicate- he was always getting hurt. That made him a liability in my opinion.
Have a ton of fun for me, and don't forget your sunscreen; sunburns hurt a LOT.
Ricky said: You are so right about Sammy! I tried to tell my mom that. Cause she told me it didn't make sense when I said he was the last of the cogs not working in Boston. I said you can't play hurt mom and he could bum his toe when he gets out of bed in the morning!
I was wrong, my mom found out last night we need to leave tomorrow for San Jose. That doesn't break my heart cause now we get to see more than two games.
And guess what? Aunt Julie bought me typotalk so I can do my own typing! Soon I will learn how to spell and stuff so I can do it myself but until then she got me typotalk. I talk to the mic and the computer types for me. She said I still need to let an adult check what I typed so I don't get into trouble, but that's cool. She has been helping me train it so it knows how to spell good and know my words.
Aunt Julie used to do swim team so she and my mom taught me to swim. I am pretty good. I can hold my breath underwater but not forever. Just until I come back up. I really want to say hi to Big Joe for ya but Mom said we can't make Aunt Julie stalk him so we can talk to him cause we could get arrested. Aunt Julie was going to try to call the San Jose people to ask them about seeing Big Joe but she wasn't sure if she could get the number it might be hidden. I used to call him Jumbo Joe but he doesn't look so Jumbo when he is in San Jose only when he is in Boston so now he is just Big Joe.
