The Hockey Journal has a interesting piece on Charlie Jacobs here. I did not know that he was the brains behind the Bruins. I always kind of thought it was Jeremy. (Quippy one-liners about questioning the existence of "brains" within the Bruins management withheld, because... good god y'all, I am coming around on understanding why they do some of the moves they do. I AM NOT PROUD OF THIS, so like, keep it to yourselves, a'ight?)
Inside Hockey gives out some midseason awards that aren't part of the normal package. SVO has three awards that it is currently assembling a list of nominees for, as well as ironing out the details for the actual awarding of each trophy. You may or may not hear more about this as the season progresses. I haven't decided yet.
The ProJo has a review of Sunday's 8-3 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and the Bruins Insider over at the Boston Herald has a nice review of the pBruins. I found few bones to pick with it (since, you know, I like to pretend that I am the foremost leading authority on the pBruins), but I would like to point out that while it pinned all those boys pretty accurately, it neglected to point out that Ben Guite is perhaps the most versatile player on the ice, and while he may not be on the scoresheet as much as some, he's a key player. Give G-Unit his props, y'all. He deserves them.
The pBs recalled defenseman Jon Awe from Gwinnett yesterday and according to the AHL transactions, we signed him to a PTO. This means that Jon Sigalet is possibly not returning tonight, which... DAMN. Though, Mike Schutte is supposed to be suspended a game for actions in the game Sunday, so possibly it just means that Jon will be back, Mike will be out, and Providence would like to dress six defensemen instead of five for a change, particularly with us playing the division leaders tonight.
The pBruins site says nothing about Awe or Gajic being recalled (note to self: Gajic has been on loan to Gwinnett), and none of the transactions say anything about Schutte being suspended a game. Possible scenarios: Awe is signed to a PTO because his ECHL contract is not two-way between the E and the A; Jon Sigalet will be out longer then suspected; Mike Schutte's suspension may not take effect until Friday's game, because it seems the AHL needs a couple days to review things, as a suspension was just handed to Dan Fritsche (Syracuse Crunch) for actions in their game last Friday. This is making my brain hurt, and also, I just realized that most of this paragraph was me typing out loud again.
In miscellaneous NHL news, The Great One won't be charged in the gambling ring (whoopie, I guess?), the NHL and the NHL Officials' Assoc. tentatively agreed to a four-year contract, which is to take effect when the current deal expires this summer. Jose Theodore will be out 6-8 weeks because he fractured his heel (Montreal has recalled Yann Danis from Hamilton. The Canadiens will not be on the hook for Jose's salary if he misses 20 games), and the Sens aren't telling when Dominik Hasek will be back from his muscle strain that caused him to bow out of participation in the Olympics.
You might think that maybe the Manchester team and the Lowell team have fallen off my radar a little bit lately, because I've been all, ooooh Providence this and aaaaah Providence that. You might even suggest that maybe I have had a tunnel vision for nothing but Providence, and well, you would be right. I can't argue with truth, y'all. To make it up to you, I will tell you all about them. Later. Like, tomorrow. Because I have to go shower and get dressed and get ready to go see Providence tonight, because I love those boys.

Caitie said: Would one of those awards happen to be the Dollar Memorial Trophy? :)

And Caitie, shhhhh! Ain't no one supposed to know! Heh.
Jess said: I'm way excited for handing out the awards at the end of the season. Because ours are way better and more important than any teams awards they have. Look at me making us sound all important!
